British government offers 2 options for immigration by investment to the UK. Residence permit is granted to participants of the Tier 1 (Investor) visa or Innovator visa programs.
Tier 1 (Investor) visa
This type of visa is one of the main ways to obtain a residence permit by investment in the UK. Program requires financial investments in the amount of £ 2 000 000. Residence permit is issued for a period of 3 years and 4 months (40 months), afterwards it can be extended for another 2 years. Having lived in the country for 5 years, investor can apply for permanent residence (ILR), and then a year later he is entitled to apply for British citizenship.
In addition, there is an accelerated option to receive residence status (ILR), depending on the size of investment. By investing more than £ 5 000 000 , investor will receive permanent residence in 3 years, and by investing more than £ 10 000 000 - in 2 years. Investments should be made within 3 months from the date the visa was received. Each applicant should be over 18 years old, have an account in the British bank, provide proof of income and certificate of no criminal record. Citizens of Switzerland or European Economic Area countries are not eligible to participate in the program.
Innovator visa
In order to participate in the Innovator visa program, applicant should contribute £ 50 000 to a new business project in the UK. Investor's business or business-idea should be pre-approved by an approved government agency. English knowledge at the level not lower than B2 is also required. Subject to all requirements are met, residence permit is issued for a period of 3 years and then can be renewed an unlimited number of times.
After residing in UK for 5 years, the investor becomes eligible for permanent residence status (ILR). One year after residence permit is granted, applicant may apply for British citizenship. Under the terms of the Innovator visa program, each applicant must be over 18 years old, confirm his sufficient knowledge of English (not less than B2 level), not be a citizen of Switzerland or European Economic Area (EEA) country, have a business plan that was pre-approved by an authorized government body, and confirm availability of sufficient personal funds needed for residence in the UK.
