This program is not valid for citizens of the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland. Malta Residence and Visa Programme (MRVP) provides for a combined investment. The applicant needs to purchase a property worth at least € 270 000 in the South of Malta or Gozo island, or spend at least € 320,000 in other regions of Malta. However applicant may rent property in the South of Malta or Gozo island for a period of not less than 5 years at the price of at least € 10,000 per year, or € 12,000 in other regions of Malta. Another requirement is to invest € 250,000 in government securities for a period of not less than 5 years and pay a non-refundable state fee of € 30,000 for the main applicant and an additional € 5,000 for each family member. After 5 years, the investor who received residence permit in Malta under the Malta Residence and Visa Program becomes entitled to sell real estate and government bonds without loss of resident status.
