In order to attract foreign investments to the country, a special program of investment immigration to Bulgaria has been developed at the legislative level. It provides an opportunity to acquire a Bulgarian passport in return for significant financial investments in the economy of the state. The right to participate in it for foreign applicants is ensured by the Investment Promotion Act, as well as articles 24-25 of Foreigners in The Republic of Bulgaria Act, and Article 14A of the Citizenship Law of Bulgaria. Bulgarian passport is issued to investors under the accelerated procedure without the need of prior residence in the country.

In accordance with the Investment Promotion Act, participation in the priority investment project and compliance with the requirements established by the legislation allows you to quickly obtain a Bulgarian passport. The status of a citizen of Bulgaria is assigned based on the incorporation of new or expansion of existing business, increase in enterprise production, expansion of activity through implementation of new additional products, fundamental change in the overall production process. The acquisition of a Bulgarian passport involves investment in the industrial sector or service sector. The investor is invited to make a financial investment of € 3,100,000 in the capital of any Bulgarian company (subject to possession of more than 50% of shares) or to purchase securities issued by the Bulgarian government, shares of stock companies or funds that specialized in real estate, worth more than € 512,000.
To speed up the process of obtaining a Bulgarian passport after 1 year of residency, the government offers the option of increasing the investment amount by 2 times. The second, additional investment must be made within 2 years after the main investment. The validity of Bulgarian passport issued under the state program is 5 years with the possibility of further extension.
