According to Belgian law, foreign applicants should first of all obtain a residence permit to obtain a passport. Under the terms of the Belgium Residence Program, when investing at least € 350,000 in registering or purchasing a business in Belgium, the applicant is issued a temporary residence permit for a period of 1 year with the possibility to renew it and obtain permanent residency in 3 years. After 5 years of living in the country, the investor should pass a test of his knowledge of one of the official languages (French, German or Dutch) and confirm active participation in the economic life of Belgium. Investments are directed to one of the regions of the state (Brussels, Wallonia or Flanders) and are fully refundable. The spouse and children can participate in the Belgium Residence Program and obtain passports together with the investor.
