According to Belgian law, foreign applicants should first of all obtain a residence permit to obtain a passport. Under the terms of the Belgium Residence Program, when investing at least € 350,000 in registering or purchasing a business in Belgium, the applicant is issued a temporary residence permit for a period of 1 year with the possibility to renew it and obtain permanent residency in 3 years. After 5 years of living in the country, the investor should pass a test of his knowledge of one of the official languages (French, German or Dutch) and confirm active participation in the economic life of Belgium.
